What to look for in a new stove or fireplace
Ceramic Glass
Ceramic Glass is rated to a higher temperature. Some companies use Tempered Glass. Tempered Glass will actually "hold" more heat back leaving you in the cold. Ceramic Glass actually lets the heat pass through.
Heater Rated or Decorative Units
Some units are heater rated and some are decorative. Heater rated units can be hooked up to a thermostat, decorative cannot.
Heat Circulating Units
Some units come with blowers others do not come with blowers. Blowers are obviously advantageous when trying to heat a larger area faster. There are two different kinds of fireplaces, heat circulating and radiant. Heat circulating actually circulates the air.

Burn Technology
Some companies put a lot of time and money into developing a "realistic" looking flame pattern. Flame patterns are in Direct Vent Fireplaces, others do not have this "burn technology".
Mantels
There are many different types of mantels. Some fireplaces have different clearances to the mantels. Although in most cases, if you can dream it up, we can do it!
Options
Each fireplace manufacture offers different options for their fireplaces. Some of these options are: remotes, trim kits (polished brass or brushed stainless steel, bay fronts and decorative doors).
Variable Valves
Almost every direct vent fireplace on the market has an adjustable valve. Some valves are fixed others will have a range of 20% to 50% "turn down"..
